I've contacted Southwest Mototires to purchase a Avon Azaro AV45 120/70 R17 and all they have listed is a AV45 120/70 "ZR17". I was told The "Z" for the LT was Bad.
After several emails they have told me that they are the same thing, and that they don't know how to explain it to me any better.
Can anybody shead some light on this??
I want to try the Bridgestone BT020 160/70 R17 rear and the above for the front. Up to this point I'm been using the Metz's and would like to try the radials
Cheers

I suggest that you post the entire size with weight and speed ratings and then get an opinion on that.. weight rating is what you are concerned with.. I doubt that you will have a need to use a speed rating above 'V' but it won't hurt. Frankly I find it amazing that tires are listed on most websites by only size and they have different speed and weight rating available in the same product from the same manufacturer..

It is not that the "Z" speed rating is not right for the LT, it is the load ratings of the manufacturer's tire offerings that is the problem. When the BT020s came out they were offered in both "Z" speed rating, and non Z. The load ratings of the "Z" speed rated tires was lower, and not what the LT required, so that is where the "non Z" requirement came from.
The Avons however, only offer the Z speed rated tire, but it IS load rated proberly for the LT, so they are fine.

Thanks Dave that's "exactly" what I needed to know. I just wanted to be sure.
It's summer and dry now up here in the Pacific Northwest but we've had alot of rain lately and the good old Met'z have been giving me too many spots of adrenalin when the rear tire (front tire?) slips in the rain. Think it's time for the change.........
I'll place the order,
Kind regards,
Gary

Getting ready to order my F & R set now of Avons to replace the OEM 020 bias that came on my 05. I may well mount up the Radial Front first as my rear 020 bias still has 5.5 mm of tread left and several members have experienced no reported problems of the bias and radial mix.. I will have the Rear Avon just in case I have any issues with the mix... My front is down to 2 mm and wearing fast with all the curves around here!!!!
