Theves stealing GPS units on the rise

And it looks like they are targeting HID units as well!?!?

I realize the article is discussing the thefts related to cars, but if they can get the HID out of my '05 LT, both Joe AND I will stand up and applaud. Took him quite a while and a lot of effort to install it.

When they steal the HID headlamp units out of cars, they're not particularly careful about anything that holds them in. Usually, they just pry up the corner of the hood with a big bar, bust up the grille, and remove the screws (often times cutting the wires as well.) While you may be meticulous about the installation, the removal process leaves behind a mess of broken bits that the thieves aren't concerned with.

The one thing that concerns me when I park my bike is the fact that the GPS mount is still there, out in the open. While I take the unit with me, some thief may decide it's worth a peek inside the locked luggage compartments to look for it.

They'd have to destroy my Garmin 2610 to get it out of its BMR mount.
