I have read the threads to fix for the older LT's speedometer, but am wondering if anyone has tried it on an 05 or 06, or if there is a different fix.

I had a Trooper pace me with radar and found my 06 speedometer was 10% off. I showed the results to the dealer and got the expected response "Oh, they are all that way."

The only fix so far is to buy a GPS and use that (at least that is what I did).

One person did disassemble the unit and removed the pointer and placed it back on below the zero line and it actually worked pretty well. I find the 3.33 mile tick marks rather absurd and hard to decipher (where is 55?) so I use the GPS. There is no "jumper" to fix this one.

Yes...almost EVERY motorcycle I've ridden has always had an inaccurate speedo. No offense, but this is NOT just a BMW issue. Honda does it. Kawasaki does it. Suzuki does it. All from personal experience.

YES, there is a fix. Take the needle off the spindle and move it over one notch. Mark Neblett posted on this several months ago...maybe longer. Do a search on "Speedometer Correction". You'll be amazed at what you find. :)

Jerry, along with Mark Neblett, I fixed the error on my 05 LT speedo. You will need to do some "tupperware" removal and eventually remove the instrument panel face (held on by, I believe, nine small Torx screws). DO NOT TOUCH THE UNDERSIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN ANY MANNER SINCE IT HAS A VERY FRAGILE COATING ON IT TO PREVENT FOGGING...IF YOU FOR SOME REASON GET ANY LINT OR OTHER DEBRIS ON THE REAR FACE, OPT FOR USING A BLAST OF CLEAN AIR FROM AN AEROSOL CAN SUCH AS FROM RADIO SHACK TO CLEAN IT.

Once the instrument panel face is removed, use two ninety degree bent tools (positioned 180 degrees from each other) such as picks (available from hardware stores) to pry the speedo pointer up off its fulcrum. DO COVER THE LT AREA AROUND WHERE YOU ARE WORKING WITH A RAG TO PREVENT LOSING THE SPEEDO POINTER WHEN IT POPS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the speedo scale at the "zero" region. Reposition the pointer "counterclockwise" below "zero" exactly the distance from "zero" to the first division encountered above "zero". What you have done is effectively slow down the speedo, at least from a visual perspective at its rest position...yes, it will be below "zero" with the bike sitting still. Carefully re-install the instrument face and all the rest of the "stuff".

Checking the speedo on my LT after the fix revealed that it is now within one or two mph of exactly "dead on" with the GPS and that is excellent!

I read all these and have one question; If my speedometer is off 10% and the speedometer is in 3.3 mph increments and I move the dial counterclockwise one increment, how will that help me at 80mph when my speedometer says I am doing 88mph? At 80 mph with this fix, won't my speedometer just say I am traveling approx 85 mph or am I missing something in how the fix works? Please keep in mind your answers are going to a guy who could F**K up an anvil. :D

On my 05' the speedo is only off 3 to 4 mph when i check it against the GPS (2610) at most speeds. Last week on a trip I took it up to 120 on the speedo and the GPS said 117mph.

A lot of troble for an insignificant problem!!
Just use the digital speedo in the computer!!
Cyle thru to the speed, hold down on the BC button for a coupla seconds..
the speed will display. This is digital and dead on with GPS.

Cheers

I believe what he means is using the average speed function fors an instantaneous speed reading. Not exactly what you are looking for though.

Hey Jerry,
I see you purchased the best looking and fastest LT....
Exactly what I call the " Blue Bullet "
Here are the exact speed from my GPS..

In 5th gear @ 3,000 RMP = 55 mph

Here are the exact speeds from my GPS..

In 5th gear @ 3,000 RMP = 55 mph
@ 3,500 RMP = 65 mph
@ 4,000 RMP = 75 mph

This should cover everything for those dam Cops !
Also for in town In 4th gear @ 4,000 rpm = 45 mph...

My speedo is five miles in error @ 75 mph the speedo reads 80 mph (error +5).
At 125 mph the speedo is reading 140 mph...that is correct +15 mph in error !
I like the GPS because it is easier to read all the way to Max Warp...
Lt should have come with 160 mph speedo !!

Makes you feel faster !!
