Here is what I want to do .

I am needing to mount my Audiovox Xpress XM radio receiver. It is equipped with an MP3 Input on it. So I am wanting to mount my Ipod next to the receiver.

I am thinking the Receiver to be mounted on the clutch reservoir housing, and then the Ipod next to it. However, the "next" to it part puts it on the plastic part of the handlebar next to the reservoir.

Not sure how to accomplish this? I will need to see my mounting possibilities in order to decide which mount to buy.

I have thought about the standard mount for the Xpress that bolts to the reservoir housing and has the little lip for the antenna to mount on. Thought about mounting a ram ball on the UNDERside of that lip then just put a Ram bar straight forward (well at an angle following the angle of the handlebar) then just mount an otterbox on the other end of it? This would suspend the Ipod in the otterbox over the handlebar, out of the way of the speedo, and such. Any ideas? Will the added weight of the Ram ball, arm and ipod cause any problems with the mounting to the reservoir(stress)?

Just some ideas...

Any creations you have come up with I would LOVE to see and read about. If you have something you have created that would work and would be willing to recreate another for me to purchase...that could work as well.

To "secure" mount on that plastic part, I suggest using the "U" bolt and mount directly to handlebar and cut a hole for the U-bolt to pass through. Hoon or RAM have options to do that.. or make your own =).. just get corrrect size U-bolt and a "fender washer" large enough to drill holes for U-bolt. You will then have a center hole to mount a bolt to which can protrude through a small hole in the bar cover. You can then mount to that bolt.

Sounds easy enough. However, I am not sure what a fender washer is, and Do you have pictures of how this is done?

Has anyone used the Otterbox? It says it is waterproof.

I need to figure out with it plugged into the DC adapter(I have to create one yet) and the Line out to the Input on the XM, with these to cords is the otterbox designed for this to still maintain its water barriers?

Sure.. a "fender washer" is a flat piece of material, it is circular in shape with a SMALL hole in the center. It differs from "standard" washers you are familiar with which are just a little bit larger than the specific nut size.

Using the large washer will give you larger contact area to your handlebar and a small hole in the center for a bolt to mount your device to.

The whole point is to have a sturdy mount that transfers the pressures to the bar and not the plastic handlebar housing... and this way you drill only a small hole rather than a huge slot in the plastic.

You can get the fender washer(s) and U-bolts, etc, at Auto Zone or one of the Big Box stores.

There are other "options".. such as making a "saddle" from the fender washer (bend it around the bar to fit the curve) then glue it to the bar with JB Weld or similar high strength epoxy.

As for "waterproof", might consider the Pelican Box too.

I guess I am still a little lost. I NOW know what a fender washer is. However, Deacon, you mentioned JB weld to the bar. So, am to believe that I am to drill a hole in my handlebar itself? I am guessing mount the fendwasher, JBWeld it, and once cured, drill through the bar where the hole in the fender washer is, and then mount a R-A-M ball there? if so, it isn't a bad Idea just want to be sure. I am not sure how the AudioVox Xpress mounts, if it will mount the same as the Roady XT or not. It should be here in a couple of days according to the site that was provided to us. www.ecost.com

I have ran lots of possibilities through my mind. I have sat on the bike for about 20mins and ran through some scenarios and then made sure it would be ok with the mounts I am thinking about. I wish this site had a Doodle Pad so I can show a couple of ideas.

Thanks for all your help
