View Full Version : Group buy for Ztechnik (RT) windshields

emsweeney
Jun 20th, 2006, 12:35 pm
I have to be a glutton for punishment! I have set up a group buy for the VStream windshield for the LT at a group price of $144.95 and a flat $10.00 shipping in the US. The deal is that you order through Rob at Bob's BMW and the glass gets sent out from Ztechnic.

That list is now closed and the ordering has begun. However, while speaking with Mac at Ztechnik today (Tuesday) he said he could offer the same deal for the new RT windshields, as long as they get at least 20 people signed up.

So here is the deal, I know nothing about the RT, but if there is some interest I will get this going and post all of the ordering info from the LT site with updated cut off dates for being on the list and for ordering.

Any interest, let me know.

I am absolutely interested in an R12RT Ztechnik windshield. Will post a link to here on the Sport Touring list as well.

This is my first posting, by the way -- I own an 05 R1200RT Dark Graphic.

Thanks so much.

To keep the list simple, copy and past the list into your reply, then add your name to it. That way everybody can see their name is counted. I'll do the first two names and see where it goes from here.

Checked Ztechnik site, shield is 26.5" tall. Measured stock at little over 24". Ztechnik is what I need as stock hits right in my line of sight at high position.

How are payment and delivery handled on a group buy like this? Do all the windshields come in to one location (Bob's?) and then get shipped from there? I assume there would be additional shipping charges from the secondary distribution point. Or, are windshields shipped direct to customers? What arrangement needs to be made for payment, are we notified when the unit arrives?
Lots of questions, but I've never been part of a group buy before.

Thanks,

Bruce B.

We each call Bob's after the group is constituted. Items are ordered for us by Bob's, then shipped directly from wholesaler to us. $10 for shipment, I am led to understand.

Hi guys, I set up the group buy for the LT windshields, and there have been many, many posts on this on the LT forum. This thread link will be the best to explain the ordering procedure; (VStream group buy info) and that is in the Ergonomics and Riding Comfort subforum, in the Accessories, Gadgets, and Gear forum, on this site.

So far the LT group buy is going great. Windshields are already being sent out.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to pm me.

OK, I don't want to act too soon here, so I'm gonna ask first.

Should I try to contact Rob at Bob's BMW to pay for my order now, or wait till he's been contacted so he knows we're coming?

Would somebody point me toward a link that tells us how to complete this purchase?

Now that we are at 20, let me call Rob at Bob's and Mac at Ztechnic and let them know. I will then post the purchasing info. I assume it will be the same as the LT group buy, but let me check.. Should be able to post an answer on Friday afternoon.

Spoke with both Rob and Mac today (Friday) and both are on board and okay with the smaller number then the LT buy. Rob does want to wait until the end of next week, however, before he gets the RT orders going. He is finishing up on the LT orders, then getting ready for the large BMW rally, so he's swamped.

The pricing will be the same as the LT group which was $144.95 for the "glass" and $10.00 flat rate shipping in US.

I will see him on Monday and get firm dates on ordering, (we had 3 weeks to complete the orders on the LT) and post that along with all of the ordering particulars and numbers on Monday.

Okay, Rob and Mac are all on board with this and the ordering can begin on Monday July 17 (that will give Rob enough time to close out the LT buy, get all of the parts packed for the rally and take a breath).

I am copying the LT ordering info because it is all the same.

The final price is $144.95 for the windshield and a $10.00 flat fee for shipping, in the U.S.

I will email the final list to Rob and Mac at Ztechnic on Monday morning the 17th., then I am done, it's up to you to order. You will have 3 weeks from the 17th. to order, then the group price is no longer valid. Rob is set to go, Mac is set to to go. Order by calling Rob or emailing him all of your info, name, address, credit card info...Rob's email is rob.caple@bobsbmw.com and his phone is 301-497-8949 ext 239, 888-bmw-bobs ext. 239. He takes the order and Ztechnic mails the windshields out directly.

Any questions PM me or call me at 410-608-4972. I hope you all like them and that they work well on your RT's.

Came home from a ride about 2:30 p.m. and there was the Ztechnik windshield. It arrived in perfect shape. It took about five minutes to install, and of course I had to take it our for a test ride. The windshield performs as advertised. Fully up, the edge is about three inches above my line of sight. This will come in handy this winter. Just barely up and the noise level really goes down. I am very pleased with the Ztechnik and want to thank you for putting together the group buy.

Anyone else received theirs yet?

Installation: As simple as removing 6, T25 screws (3 per side). Replacing the screen and fastening the screws.
The Z-tech screen holes matched perfectly. Total installation time... >10 minutes. Unless you spend a little more time cleaning

RIDE: I am 5'11" (actually just barely under 6') with a 30-31" inseam.
The stock windscreen was just under my line of sight. I think the Z-tech screen is perhaps just a tiny bit taller but it still allows me an unencumbered view of the road ahead.
As for the wind and noise... what wind? what noise?
Before today's ride I was not able to listen to the radio while riding at speeds >50 mph (with screen in full up position).
I can now hear my radio and there is virtually no wind buffeting.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Tom_K
Aug 2nd, 2006, 12:09 pm
(5'10", 30" inseam, low seat) Had a chance to ride with the ZTechnik windshield for an hour or so. Much larger still air pocket, little or no side buffeting, and 70 mph feels like 55~60 with the stock unit. Also, I suspect that riding in the rain will no longer require a face shield. Now, I'd like a higher 6th gear to reduce engine noise since there is less wind to mask it.

A great product at little more than 1/2 the price of OEM.

So get this!

I still hadnt recieved the windshield yesterday so emailed Rob last night requesting tracking information which he sent to me early this AM.

UPS said it was delivered.. called UPS and they provided me with the delivery address which was a residence I havent lived at for 3+ years and then told me if I had a problem I needed to take it up with the shipper.. have a nice day!

Bottom line, the old address is an hour's drive away.. its an apt complex so they have it sitting in their front office waiting for me luckily... how did UPS get this address?

I talked to Colin in the parts dept at Bob's BMW(very helpful guy) and he was just as perplexed as I about how this new address got in the mix.. I've never ordered from Bob's BMW or Ztechnik before so its not as if they had an old address in their systems.. The Ship to address on the shipping confirmation had the right address.. UPS must have just arbitrarily yanked this one out of their system when for some reason they decided they couldn't deliver to my current address... ugh

so.. got to take a few hour drive to get it but hopefully by this evening I'll be happy behind a new windscreen.

You would think UPS would pick it up and deliver it to the correct address since it was their mistake.

yup, but the UPS person on the phone was about as helpful as... well, I think the USPS might've given me better treatment. Basically its delivered, not their problem - talk to the shipper if you want to do an investigation.

I just want to reiterate that the folks at Bob's BMW were very helpful this morning though as I tried to figure out what happened.

I would take this further with UPS.obviouslythe person you spoke to was not helpful but perhaps their supervisor would be?

Anyway, hope you are as happy with the screen as I am..

Are these coming from Bob's or Ztechnik direct? I ordered mine 10 days ago and I am wondering if I should have received it yet?

They are coming directly from Ztechnik. If you ordered via email from Bob's, Rob, should have sent you a tracking number. If not ring him up and check.

I got mine and installed this weekend. I am really impressed beyond the quietness is the reduction of turbulance behind other cars. I was out on I-94 yesterday afternoon and it was noticebly quieter and more controlled than with the stock windscreen.

Glad to hear you got yours. Dave.

Had our first chance to try the Ztechnik two up & my wife reports much less wind buffeting from her pillion position.

My wife noticed she can hear the radio fine now. I also noticed I can really hear my tires. The Bridgestones are about 1/2 used up and they weren't quiet to begin with.
