I know you're just aching to get in condition for those long summer runs ahead to national rallies, bucolic vacation spots, and endurance competitions. You can hardly get anywhere interesting without spending a couple days on the hot superslab. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a hot slab of beef at the end of every ride? Where north and south can meet up every once in awhile?

It's real simple. Meet for lunch at Harris Ranch about 1pm this Saturday.

Harris Ranch is one of the premium beef suppliers in the country. They own and operate a restaurant/hotel/spa complex near Coalinga right off I5. Perhaps you have seen the cows that go on for a few miles north of the complex. They have a small general aviation airport on site as well. It's a halfway point between northern and southern California. I'm meeting my brother with his new (to him) 2004 R1150RT there and you're all invited too.

I'll be leaving the Roseville area about 0800 with a stop near Tracy around 0930. Figure your route and bring your appetite. See you there!

I have been there several times, and once when I was still flying, my wife and I flew from San Deigo to near San Francisco, and on the way back we landed there and spent the night. Great place to stay a night or two, two nice pools, and the restaurant is one of the best we have been to.

They raise nearly everything on the menu on their own farms/ranch.

Well worth the trip!

They have two restaurants, one is more the breakfast/lunch place, the main one for Dinner. The dinner menu and service are first class.

I'd love to go, but my nephew turns 21 on Saturday and the family is having a big BBQ for him. Also, it's going to be 100+ degrees out there Saturday, so stay hydrated!

"Pain and discomfort is irrefutable proof that you are still alive."

Perhaps we'll arrive back in Roseville 3-5 pounds lighter. ;)

"The way you boys is lolly-gagging around you'd think it was a 120 degrees. Can't be more than 114!"

Due to the heat, my brother left SoCal a couple hours earlier so we changed the meetpoint to 1130 at Pea Soup Andersen's in Santa Nella. Still "only" in the mid-90s around that time. Wayne, Steve, and myself met up earlier in Lathrop and then road down to meet him. Wayne and I both recently purchased cooling vests and were hoping for some lousy hot conditions to try them out. It was around 104 when we headed back north towards Roseville. 108 when we arrived. Yep, lousy hot! The cooling vests worked very well and made the whole exercise quite managable in the extreme conditions. They seemed to work best directly over a coolmax t-shirt with mesh jacket over the top. Quite the value at $29.00. We all made it back safely and soon found ourselves in the pool with a St. Pauli Girl in hand.
