??Q for those who use fuel treatments

Hello. Please, no oil wars here, just a question about traveling with some type of treatment. I have been using Lucas treatments for a few months but I do not carry it with me. If I have a ride planned, I fill up the bike the day before and add the treatment in the garage. I will leave Tuesday for an Iron Butt ride one way and then stay in Colorado for a week. My question is, is it OK to carry something like that in the bag?

I carry fuel additive in metal can. Brand is unimportant to your question..

I put it inside a ziploc bag... my product doesn't eat the baggie.. yours might.. perhaps you should verify.

Of course keeping the product "vertical" is the easiest way to ensure no spillage or odor problems in the pack.

Bottom line, yeah, you can "carry" ... just need to be careful how you secure it.

I got the small bottle of Lucas Fuel treatment that I carry on the bike to add at each fill up and a large bottle at home to refill the small one. I as cfell does carry the smaller one in a zip lock. It does fine.

The Lucas treatment is Upper Cylinder Lubricant and really helps keep the fuel delivery system and top end in great shape.

and OZ or so in the tank makes a noticeable improvement in mileage and performance.

When on the road I carry a Camping Fuel Bottle (Aluminum with screw on cap) filled with Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant.

I've been in the automotive business for about 35 years now. Modern fuels already have detergents, and I've never known any reason to add "super slick oils" to fuel to clean and lubricate a carb or injector.

Sounds like snake oil to me, but to each his own. You like it, go ahead and carry it with you. My bike runs fine on plain old gasoline.

Well, I've stopped at gas stations where I only have ONE fuel dispensing hose. IF I only have available a pump where someone was pumping "regular" fuel, I administer the "additive" which picks up the octane rating.

Why? Because a single hose system will first dispense the previous fuel selection until the hose is flushed.

According to the Texas Department responsible for monitoring these pumps they will "flush" 5 gallons through the system before taking the "sample".....

Now, in a 25 gallon tank, the "hit" will be small. According to the Texas Department that I contacted, that's the type of application they "support". The tank size of the LT with this dilution rate, it can be significant.

I also choose an additive that will cleanse the injectors. It makes a difference in fuel mileage to me, which adds to the true story, "conspiracy theory" I mention above.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll drop'er in a plastic bag and throw it into the bag. Ya know, I'm real specific about how I use it. I give a squeeze and maybe one oz comes out or maybe three oz. comes out. Maybe I had 1/4 tank of fuel left or my light was on. I'm not that anal about it but I do use it.

Now, does this stuff work? Who knows. Do you need it? Can't say. I do know that it does not hurt to use it and I have not been using it on a regular basis to say one way or another but I like to think it does better.

Started using Lucas 5 months ago when switched to regular gas. Switched to quiet noisey injectors which it did. Side benefit is same as Dave's here plus no pinging.

10 to 14% better mileage? Wow, Dave, that's really impressive. I may have to give it a try... better than magnets.

I've been dumping in a couple of ounces of Techron in the LT every 1,000 miles or so, and have been using it in all my vehicles including a 1988 1 ton dually crew cab I've had since new. Never had any fuel injector problems. I do remember back in the late 80's when I had my 528i BMW had their own brand of fuel injector cleaner that they recommended for cars - don't know if they still sell it. Probably was just re-branded Techron.

Only thing it has affected is my bank account $$$$. I think I remember pricing it at one time and it came out to $160.00 a gallon. :D Maybe I SHOULD buy more Chevron stock instead.

When I'm taking a trip I put MOM in the tank. I also use 3@ 2oz plastic squeeze bottles, with a line marked in sharpie half way up each bottle.
I stretch a piece of plastic over the opening before I screw lid on, then carry in zip lock bag. While your at the fuel pump it is easy to ditch the plastic in their trash can.
You can Get MOM at dollar stores in 8 oz bottle around here so it is simple, and your set for 7 tankfuls.

Last time I took her for a ride, she grabbed onto my belt to hold on, pulled up, and my voice went up about four octaves.

Well beinasI (yeah dats one word) moved up from a bike with 2 letter name,HD, to a 3 letter name,BMW, I ain'ts had time to work on my speeling! :D
Yeah thats what I meant we have always called it MOM, all the old school Knuck and Panhead rider's around here have used it for long as I can remember, or since they took the lead out of the gas. Old bikes had bronze valve seats the lead was a lubricant. :cool:

Been using "Techron" and "Marvel Mystery Oil" every 3k for years. Never had a fuel system problem or had to replace an injector!

Luca's or Marvel doe not change the gas and give you more miles per gallon period.
What they do is clean the entire combustion system, lubricate the components and let the engine perform better.
Thus the notice in MPG improvement statements. (The MPG was in the gas the whole time, your machice was just not letting it out) Friction reduction makes life better wether on your bike or at your house. :cool:
