Ok, how do I fix this?

Ok, it isn't a rear drive or something major like that, but....

The zipper pull on one of my Oxtar's broke this AM.... arrrggghhhh... :mad:

For now I have a paper clip substituting for the pull (ala MacGyver) - that may end up being the long term solution. Boots are still in really good shape - besiades I would hate to have to replace them for something like this!

Just curious if any one has any ideas.

Bring it down to my 'hood. I gotta friend in the boots/shoes/clogs/chaps/belts bidness and he can fix ya right up! OR, you might wanna try your local boot/shoe cobbler. He's bound to have seen similar disasters before!! :p And will charge accordingly!! :eek:

That's a good idea.... Didn't think they could fix it without replacing the zipper....

Any shoe or boot repair guy should be able to fashion and attach a leather tab to the pull. That happened to my Daytona boots and Helmut at Helimots did that for me. Another quick fix is to get a heavy duty key ring (you can find them at hardware stores and such) and put that on. A lot of folks do that, too.

Go to your nearest fly fishing store and ask for the little key rings. They are about 4mm in diameter. Hook this to the zipper boss. Then attach what ever you want for of ease operation. Personally like the Aerostich pulls available at aerostich.com

Good suggestion Patrick ... Gave me an excuse to go to Bass Pro and ahhhhh and ohhhhhhh at all those toys!

Used a couple size 6 split rings and the original pull tab.... A bit hard with my ol' eyes, but she's good as new and I no longer have the paper clip lash-up...

all of the other suggestions here are very good - a cobbler would hook you right up.

but here's my other suggestion... when you find a pair of boots you like - especially if they're on sale, wear 'em for a few weeks to make sure you like them and then go buy another pair and stick 'em in the closet. not that you'll canabalize the 2nd pair, but you'll have a great set of boots for a long damn time...

And one that Cheryl has been faithfully practicin' all our married life!!! :D Plus, her other modus operandi is the 2 for 1 deal --- buy two pair of shoes and throw out one old pair from the closet!! Amazing how many pair of shoes a closet will hold before it explodes!! :crazy:

Good ideas, I've been using a large paper clip on my Joe Rocket jacket for over a year now. The only problem is it hangs on the fabric sometimes and then I have to rebend it back into shape. But for a cheap fix, it sure works.

Take a wide flat black shoelace, three inches long, and cut a slit in the middle of it near one end 1/4 quarter inch long with a new single edge razor blade. Pass the slit end through the zipper tab and with the slit sticking out, pass the other end of the shoelace through the slit. Pull tight. Trim to the final length you want. Instant zipper pull. :thumb:
